Two years after its launch, Facebook is planning to shut down its Gaming app on October 28 of this year, but users will still be able to access the games through the Facebook app. After its official shutdown, the Gaming app won't be available on Google Play Store or the Apple App Store. Debuting during the pandemic in 2020, the Gaming app allowed users to watch their favourite streamers, play instant games and become a part of gaming groups. Despite the announcement of the shutdown, Facebook still has a "mission to connect players, fans and creators with the games they love haven’t changed". The Gaming app served as an incredible environment for the gaming team to test and iterate a variety of gaming-specific features and products. Facebook hasn't specified why it is closing its standalone Gaming app but the decision comes amongst new changes at the company while they incorporate new services and shut down old ones. It recently also decided to close down its live shopping feature after October 1. Meta is focused on developing Reels and testing out a new live streaming platform for influencers called "Super". The platform aims to help host live streams, earn revenue and engage with viewers. Currently, the platform resembles Twitch and is being tested out by less than 100 creators.
