Netflix mulls asking biometric proof to avoid password sharing

Streaming giant Netflix might tackle the issue of password sharing by asking for fingerprints or face recognition from the users, as predicted by an analyst on Sunday. Netflix has announced plans to cut down password sharing as it has been affecting the revenues earned by the platform. Considering that, the leading research and advisory company CCS Insight predicts that the video streaming platform might possibly ask the users to validate their presence by asking for biometric proof. The chief analyst at CCS Insight Ben Wood said that Netflix is going through a lot of pressure regarding the account sharing issue. The fee is not specified yet but is expected to be a quarter of the original charges. The platform has struggled to retain its subscriber base due to the tough competition from streaming platforms like Disney+, Apple TV, HBO Max, and Amazon Prime. Netflix lost around one million subscribers in the first half of the year. Since then, it has worked on different plans, such as an ad-based model with Microsoft, to maximise revenue.
