Microsoft to make changes to Windows 11’s default apps system

Tech giant Microsoft is actively working on changes related to Windows 11's default app selections and pinning apps on the desktop to ensure consistency after users reported experiencing some issues. Microsoft published a detailed blog post in this regard. Regarding app defaults, the company said, "we will soon introduce a new Settings deep link URL for applications to take their users directly to the appropriate location in Settings for the user to change their defaults". Regarding pinning, the company plans to "introduce a new publicly available API that will enable apps to pin either primary or secondary tiles to the Taskbar. This API will always invoke a trusted Windows user experience to clarify what is being requested to be pinned and confirm that the user wants to allow the pin to occur". The features will be launched in the coming months. The aim is to give a consistent and open Windows experience.
