Elon Musk's social media platform X (formerly Twitter) is set to launch a new video conferencing feature, positioning itself as a competitor to services like Zoom, Google Meet, and Microsoft Teams. According to TechCrunch, an X employee named Chris Park revealed that the company has already conducted its first internal conference using the new tool, and the feedback from the team has been overwhelmingly positive. This new feature is expected to be integrated into the X app, offering a Zoom-like experience within the platform. A screenshot provided by the company shows that X has developed a working version of the video conferencing platform. The feature will be included as a separate function on the right-hand side of the interface, labeled as "Conferences." Once activated, it will allow participants full video streaming capabilities, similar to existing video conferencing tools. Currently, the video calling option within X is somewhat limited compared to other apps, showing only a small number of participants on the screen at once. It's anticipated that the new conference calls feature may initially limit the display to four participants per screen, although the company aims to expand this to better compete with Zoom and other leading video chat apps. Researcher Nima Owji mentioned that the conferencing feature might enable organizers to assign a unique code for each meeting, which participants would need to enter to join. X is likely to enhance this tool further by adding features such as the ability to pin speakers and improved notifications when users join or leave a conference. However, there is no clear release date or deployment plan for the tool yet. This development aligns with Elon Musk’s broader vision for X as an “everything app,” aiming to cater to all interactive and transactional needs in one place. The new video conferencing feature represents another step toward making X a versatile platform for both social interaction and business communication.
